A Great Cycle begins, the Long Count continues, and the never ending spiral of change will propel humanity towards deeper understandings of all that is. Existence in this era of time will prove to be extraordinary to say the least. For these reasons and more, we wish to celebrate in recognition of one of the greatest time keeping civilizations ever to grace our Earth; the Mayans.

THE HAAB & CHOL Q'IJ

The Haab and Chol Q’ij are two of three known time cycles that make up the cyclical aspect of the Mayan Calendar. The other cycle of time is the Night Lords cycle (a cycle of 9 days). Still Alive’s Haab and Chol Q’ij calendar include the Haab, Chol Q’ij, and Night Lords time cycles.

Many of the end world prophecies stem from the Mayan Calendar’s Long Count linear tracking time system reaching 13 Pih 0 Winikhaab 0 Haab 0 Winik 0 K’in (13.0.0.0.0) on December 21, 2012. Every 13 Pih is known as a “Great Cycle.”

This December 21, 2012 end date may not be accurate, as there have been differences of opinion by scholars regarding conversion constants used to calculate and convert the Mayan Calendar’s long count into the widely used Gregorian calendar dates. Regardless of the differences in opinions over conversion constants, we feel with so much negative focus being placed on this specific Long Count date, humanity should come together, as one, to celebrate the never ending change the Mayan Long Count records.

After all, change is one of the few constants we know of. There is no need to fear constructive change; and together we can make any change constructive! Let’s show all we are Still Alive on 12.22.2012!

The Haab

This is the solar calendar used by the Mayans. “Haab” is the name given to this solar cycle by classic Yucatec Mayans. Although not observed as much as the Chol Q’ij, the Haab allows for keeping track of agricultural, economic and accounting systems and cycles.

The Haab is composed of 18 winik (months) of 20 k’in (days). This formed the Mayan’s 360 k'in Haab. At the end of every 18 winik is a period of 5 unlucky k’in called Wayaab. During Wayaab, Mayans felt higher forces/deities left their presence and were not available to aid in seeing over the Earth.

The Chol Q'ij

This is the central time cycle of the Mayan Calendar system. More commonly referred to as the “Tzolk’in” (a name coined by Mayanists for the cycle), “Chol Q’ij” is what the Kaqchikel people of Guatemala have called the cycle for over 500 years. Its English translation is the equivalent of “the organization of time.” “Tzolk’in,” (the western influenced name created in Yukatek Maya) can be translated into “count of days,” or “pieces of the sun.”

The Chol Q’ij is a very sacred and spiritual cycle of time used by “Mesoamerican” cultures throughout Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. It is composed of 260 k'in (days), organized into periods of 13 tones (days of sacred numbers) and 20 k’in (sacred days). The term “Trecena” (derived from the Spanish word trece [13]), is what is most commonly used to describe the 13 k'in time period of the Chol Q'ij's tones. Spiritually, the Chol Q’ij aids in divinations, and understanding directions one’s soul may be inclined to go. Agriculturally, the Chol Q’ij aids in cultivating maize. It is also an important tool for pregnancy and birth as its cycle represents the approximate start of fetal heart-beating and ends at child-birth. The Chol Q’ij has many other uses that can aid us in understanding our development as humans.

THE NIGHT LORDS

Little is known of the Night Lord cycle. What we do know is that it repeats itself every nine k’in. We also know that every Pih, Winikhaab and Haab have concluded with the ninth Night Lord. We know the ideas and concepts behind the Night Lords are Still Alive with individuals across the world. For this reason we ask any and all with knowledge pertaining to the Mayan Night Lord cycle to contact us and help make the unknown known.

STILL ALIVE

Being part of the Unknown Depths collaboration ultimately means we are focused on making the unknown known. The unknowns Still Alive focuses on are related to historical achievements made by our human ancestors of the ancient past. This year, 2012, we’ve decided to focus on our Mayan ancestors; in recognition of the new Great Cycle beginning December 22, 2012. This focus is currently being channeled through the creation, promotion, idea-sharing, and exchange/sales of two products/services:

THE HAAB & CHOL Q’IJ (Mayan Calendar)

STILL ALIVE 2012 (New Great Cycle Celebration Event)

Each Haab & Chol Q’ij Mayan Calendar contains tickets to the Still Alive event. What better way to change the beliefs of false prophets than by letting them know we’re Still Alive the day after their supposed “end of the world?”

Still Alive is starting small and focused on growing to Great Cycle proportions. As we gain interest, exchange ideas, share knowledge, and expand involvement; the world will experience the ideas behind Still Alive shape reality.

If you wish to aid in shaping Still Alive 2012, contact us and become part of the expanded involvement.

ABOUT

While December 21, 2012, will have many consumed with fear over misinterpreted prophecies, we will be getting ready to celebrate the beginning of a new world! On Saturday December 22, 2012 let’s aid each other in showing the globe that we are very much Still Alive! Proceeds from sales of this Haab and Chol Q’ij calendar will be used to fund THE EVENT of the Great Cycle; Still Alive 2012!

Many have come to associate the Mayan calendar’s end date with prophecies of death, destruction and chaos. Web sites, books and movies have been created supporting the notion of the world coming to an end on December 21, 2012. To counter such focuses, Unknown Depths has started the ‘Still Alive’ campaign; an effort best described as a counter to the numerous end-world prophecies related to the Mesoamerican Calendar Great Cycle end date.

Still Alive was created to show the world that Mayan concepts and ideas are Still Alive and embraced by our present generation. Let’s all come together as one, and pay homage to our Mayan ancestors for their extraordinary abilities in keeping count of time, celestial events, and changes in views and perspectives.
